Each year Russian Wealth Advisors Forum brings together professionals from all over the world who advise high net worth individuals from Russia and the CIS, their families and businesses on the proper structuring and protection of their wealth. More than 100 delegates from organisations including banks, law firms, accounting firms and trust service providers attended this year’s Forum, which took place in Zurich between 2 and 4 February. They heard presentations from leading experts in this highly specialised field, including Elias Neocleous, head of our firm’s corporate and commercial department, bringing them up to date with the latest developments, techniques and best practice in today’s rapidly-changing economic and legal environment.  

Elias’s presentation focused on opportunities for onshore tax planning for high net worth individuals, comparing the relative attractions of Switzerland, the Netherlands, the UK and Cyprus from the point of view of Russian investors.  It gave an overview of Cyprus’s new non-domiciled tax regime for investment income, exemptions from income tax for high earners relocating to Cyprus and other tax incentives introduced in 2015, as well as Cyprus’s attractive citizenship-by-investment programme.
